The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has honoured Mehul Shah, Vice President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), as part of its Industry Legends recognition at the ongoing IIJS Bharat Premiere exhibition.
The recognition was presented during the exhibition, which brings together companies and professionals from across the Indian and international gem and jewellery trade.
Shah has held leadership positions within the diamond bourse sector, including his current roles at the WFDB and BDB.
Shah Dedicates Award to Indian Diamond Artisans
In his acceptance remarks, Shah dedicated the recognition to diamond artisans in India, highlighting the skill involved in cutting and polishing diamonds across a range of sizes and values.
“I dedicate this award to the Diamond Artisans of India, whose extraordinary craftsmanship has given our nation the pride of becoming the undisputed world leader in diamonds,” Shah said.
He added: “Their artistry deserves to be celebrated alongside the masterpieces of Picasso, M. F. Husain, and Raja Ravi Varma. Every perfectly faceted diamond is a work of art, reflecting years of skill, patience, precision, and passion with full emotions.”
Shah also thanked members of the Indian and global diamond trade for their support and the GJEPC for the recognition.
“I accept it with immense gratitude, humility, and a renewed commitment to serve our industry with dedication and integrity,” he said.
Context for the Diamond Trade
The recognition comes as India continues to play a major role in the global diamond cutting and polishing supply chain. Surat is a key centre for diamond processing, with Indian manufacturers producing polished diamonds for markets worldwide.
Shah’s current positions at the WFDB and BDB place him in leadership roles within both the international diamond bourse network and India’s principal diamond trading infrastructure.
