In a brazen daylight robbery, three armed men targeted MB Jewellers near Airport Bazaar in Jamshedpur’s Sonari area on Friday. The robbery, which was captured on CCTV, occurred around 1:50 pm and lasted approximately seven minutes. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges for jewellery retailers.
Details of the Incident
The robbers, posing as customers, entered MB Jewellers and requested to see rings. At that time, other customers were present in the store. Shortly after, they revealed their weapons—a combination of pistols and a gun-like device—causing panic among the patrons and staff.
Kaushal Maalu, the shopkeeper, and his nephew, Rishabh Maalu, were present during the robbery. In the ensuing chaos, Rishabh attempted to move to an adjoining room for safety, while Kaushal conceded to the criminals’ demands. SP Lunayat stated that all available resources are being used to apprehend the culprits. He also appealed to the public for any information that could aid in the investigation.
Implications for Jewellers
This incident highlights the need for jewellers to improve their security measures. While CCTV footage was crucial in this case, additional strategies like hiring trained security personnel, installing alarm systems, and using controlled entry systems could be beneficial.

Moving Forward
As the investigation continues, authorities are determined to prevent such incidents in the future. Law enforcement’s commitment, along with proactive measures by jewellery store owners, will be crucial in mitigating risks and protecting assets in the jewellery industry.
