The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have opened discussions regarding the potential development of a Jewellery Park Cargo City near Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The proposed facility is intended to improve logistics and export infrastructure for the gem and jewellery sector through a planned 50-acre site.

    Stakeholder Meeting and Project Outline

A meeting was held on 26 March 2025 at GJEPC’s Delhi Regional Office to discuss the proposal. The session was chaired by Antarpal Singh Sawhney, Regional Chairman – North, GJEPC, and attended by representatives from both GJEPC and DIAL.

Participants from GJEPC included Anil Sankhwal, Renu Sharma, Ashok Seth, K.K. Duggal, Sanjeev Bhatia, and Sanjay Madaan. Representing DIAL were Munish Davessar, General Manager – Air Logistics, and Kranti Mishra, General Manager – Strategic Logistics.

DIAL outlined plans for two adjoining developments—Cargo City 1 and Cargo City 2—covering a total of 50 acres. The proposed facilities are intended to support logistics operations for the gem and jewellery industry, situated close to the airport to assist with export-related activities.

    Site Visit and Operational Considerations

As part of the meeting agenda, participants visited the GJEPC Institute and Laboratory to review current operations and assess infrastructure requirements. Discussions covered space allocations for GJEPC and associated offices, along with the type of facilities needed to support industry-specific logistics.

    Next Steps and Industry Relevance

Both parties agreed to continue working together to further define the framework for the proposed development. Future meetings are expected to focus on logistical planning and implementation strategies.

If implemented, the proposed Jewellery Park Cargo City could affect how goods are transported, with possible implications for transit times, customs procedures, and access to international shipping. The facility would add to existing infrastructure supporting gem and jewellery exports in the New Delhi area.
